Ugadi

Telugu people celebrate 'Ugadi' to mark the beginning of their new year.

This festival comes  on  'Chaitra suddha padhyami' of spring season.

Spring(Vasanta) is the first season
Chaitram is the first month.
Padhyami is the first among thidis.

People following lunar calender(Telugu,Kannada and Maratha) will observe this day as new year day.Others following solar calender(Tamil,Malayalam,Bengali and Punjabi) will have another new year day which is very near to this day.
 

The following are the various special reasons to celebrate Ugadi.

1.As per Brahma puranam Lord Brahma started creating the Universe on this day

2.Lord Rama returned to ayodhya by finishing his 14 years of exile .

There is a nine days gap between 'Ugadi' and 'Sri Rama Navami',These nine days are called as 'Vasantha Navaratrees'.The First Nine Days of Spring season.

3.Kaliyuga started as Sri Krishna Paramatma ended his incarnation.

    UGADI = YUGADI = YUGA + ADI = Beginning of Era

4.By considering chaitram as the first month Varaha mihira published his first panchangam(Almanac) on this day only

5.King Salivahana came to throne on this day

   

UGADI PACCHADI:

On Ugadi day Morning,after having head bath with soap nuts, On empty stomach People take 'UGADI PACCHADI' that is offered to God.This pickle is a mixture of 6 tastes(Shadruchulu) ,which signifies 6 different experiences of life,that are to be accepted together.The old name for this pickle is 'Nimba Kushuma bakshanam'  means eating neem blooms.

We can use Sugar cane instead of jaggery and Pepper instead of Green chilly

PANCHANGA SRAVANAM: 

On the evening of ugadi people attend at temples and priest reads the almanac prepared by astrologer.it contains the new year fore castings based on moon signs(Rassi) and star constellation(Naksatram).Listening this Almanac is known as 'PANCHANGA SRAVANAM'
